APJ Abdul Kalam, also known as the "Missile Man of India," was a renowned scientist, educator, and politician who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was a man of great vision, determination, and humility, who inspired millions of people around the world with his inspiring speeches, writings, and deeds.

Early Life and Education:

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, a small town in Tamil Nadu, India. He was the youngest of five children born to a Muslim family. His father was a boat owner, and his mother was a housewife. Kalam was a bright student from a young age and was fascinated by science and technology.

Kalam completed his schooling from Rameswaram Elementary School and Schwartz High School. He went on to pursue a degree in Physics from St. Joseph's College in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. After completing his degree, he joined the Madras Institute of Technology, where he studied aerospace engineering.

Career as a Scientist:

Kalam's career as a scientist began in 1960 when he joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist. He worked on the development of India's first satellite launch vehicle, the SLV-III, and the Agni missile. He also played a crucial role in the development of the Pokhran-II nuclear tests.

Kalam was known for his dedication, hard work, and his ability to motivate and inspire his team. He was instrumental in establishing several national-level scientific institutions, including the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), the Missile Complex in Hyderabad, and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Career in Politics:

In 2002, Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India, succeeding KR Narayanan. He was the first scientist and the first Muslim to hold the position of President in India. During his tenure, he focused on promoting education, particularly in rural areas, and encouraging the youth to take up careers in science and technology.

Kalam was known for his simple lifestyle and his love for children. He often visited schools and colleges to interact with students and inspire them to pursue their dreams. He was also an advocate for peace and was a strong supporter of nuclear disarmament.

Legacy and Honors:

APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong.
